Van Life in Baja California | Whale Watching in Guerrero Negro, Oasis Camping in San Ignacio
Did I mention I love Baja?
Halfway down the Baja California peninsula, we (@nic-bec and I!) made it to Guerrero Negro, where we booked a gray whale watching tour with friends Mario's Tours (would recommend!) to go out into the UNESCO-recognized site, Laguna Ojo de Liebre. This lagoon is considered one of the most important breeding areas for the North Pacific Gray Whale, a once-endangered species that has rebounded in recent decades!

I Drove to Mexico. Van Life in Baja California Begins
Просмотров 27421 день назад
Baja California had been on my list of places I dreamed I taking my van. The opportunity came to cross the border with friends Nic and Bec (@nic-bec ), and this is how it all started. From Mexicali on south, we got our first taste of van life camping in the Mexican desert. This video captures only the first few days of our two month journey across this incredible peninsula. Consider subscribing...
Exploring Arizona’s Volcanoes Near The Grand Canyon
Просмотров 199Месяц назад
600. That's how many volcanoes are between Flagstaff, Arizona and Grand Canyon National Park. This is an active volcanic region called the San Francisco Volcanic Field, filled with cinder cones and lava tubes like I explore in this video. Understandably overshadowed by the presence of the Grand Canyon to the northwest, these volcanoes are still incredibly fascinating to explore and learn about....
Van Life in Death Valley | Exploring an Ancient Lake, Badlands, & Sand Dunes
Просмотров 144Месяц назад
Death Valley is a land of extremes. It's the driest, lowest, and hottest place in North America, yet due to record rainfall from Hurricane Hilary in August 2023, the ancient Lake Manly has returned to Badwater Basin. This 'ghost lake' has long been dried up but was once several hundred feet deep during the last Ice Age. The last time Death Valley National Park experienced Lake Manly's return wa...
Solo Backpacking the Grand Canyon for 3 Days

Ever wonder what it'd be like to hike down and camp at the bottom of the Grand Canyon? You're in the right place. In December 2023, I hiked the South Kaibab Trail from the South Rim to the Colorado River at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. Spending two nights at the Bright Angel Campground next to the famous Phantom Ranch, I explored some of the inner canyon trails that branch off of the famous ...
I Spent Two Months Alone in the Wilds of Colorado & Utah
Просмотров 5042 месяца назад
Fall 2023, my solo van life journey continued high in the Colorado Rockies and far into the Utah desert. This past October and November was life-changing, such solitude and beauty found in nature. I didn't know how I wanted to share that creatively with the world... until now. To anyone reading this, I hope you're well. Enjoy seeing these wild wonders through my (and my camera's) eyes :) Thank ...
Hiking Colorado 14ers & Exploring the San Juans
Просмотров 2489 месяцев назад
With warm days and chilly nights, Colorado in September is a beautiful time to explore. I spent three weeks south of I-70 enjoying the beauty that is 'Colorful Colorado'. Van life in the Rocky Mountains. Hiking in the San Juans (perhaps my new favorite mountain range in Colorado), driving the Million Dollar Highway, experiencing the 'Switzerland of America' in Ouray. Hiking 14ers La Plata Peak ...
Hiking Ramsey Cascades, Mt. Cammerer, & Cataloochee Valley | Great Smoky Mountains Van Life
Просмотров 28610 месяцев назад
In this final chapter exploring Great Smoky Mountains National Park, I camp, hike, backpack into some of the most remote corners of this amazing wilderness. - Ramsey Cascades is the tallest waterfall in GSMNP, accessible via an 8-mile roundtrip hike deep in the Tennessee side of the park. - Along the Appalachian Trail, in the Smokies’ northeast corner, is Mount Cammerer’s fire tower, a once-uti...
ALUM CAVE TRAIL to Mount LeConte | Hiking Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.10 месяцев назад
One of the best trails in Great Smoky Mountains National Park is the Alum Cave Trail to Mount LeConte. At 11-miles round-trip with 2,700' of elevation gain, this popular trail takes you through lush forests along rocky stream beds, through Arch Rock cave, under Alum Cave Bluffs, and ultimately up Mount LeConte's summit where you find the rustic and famous LeConte Lodge. This Tennessee day-hike ...
Biking Cades Cove and Night on Clingmans Dome | Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Просмотров 39010 месяцев назад
Cades Cove is vehicle-free every Wednesday from May - September, which creates an amazing opportunity to experience the 11-mile loop in a spectacular way - by bike! And I have never seen so many bears in my life! 🐻 Clingmans Dome, at 6,643', is the highest point in all of Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Tennessee. Sunsets from the top are out-of-this-world - as are its stargazing opport...
Tail of the Dragon & Hiking Shuckstack Fire Tower | Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Просмотров 18411 месяцев назад
Welcome to Great Smoky Mountains! If you watched my last video, you saw this whole trip nearly ended early... I'm glad it didn't. On this first day around the park, I explored Tail of the Dragon, one of the most famous scenic drives in Tennessee/North Carolina (and supposedly the USA). It mainly draws sports car/motorcycle enthusiasts, but I took my trusty camper van through the 11-mile, 318-tu...
Adventure & Anxiety | Solo Van Life in the Southern Appalachians
Просмотров 16011 месяцев назад
Hi, y'all. So all the videos I'd made up to this point from the van were from my ~15,000 mile, 9-month trip around the western USA in 2022-early 2023. I've since spent over 5 months catching up on all the edits from that time, and this upcoming Southern Appalachians / Great Smoky Mountains series is the first solo van life adventure I've taken since playing catch-up on all my previous videos......

Central & South Oregon Coast - Traveling in a Van Down the Pacific Coast Highway
Thanks for this video! I watched it to prepare for going and it revealed the shuttle that was super helpful so we could hike just one way. Wish we’d had more time to stay and see some of the Colorado side, but I loved this video. Thank you!
Thank you! Glad it helped!
Love it! I already spend at least half the year between the US and Baja, and it never disappoints! (probably also helps that I speak Spanish) Anyhow, your channel is a lot like mine, I have a ton of Baja camping videos. And we have been dreaming of getting a van and doing it semi full time. I think I am going to enjoy watching you do it, You got a new sub! :)
Hi thank you! Baja’s a beautiful place, that’s awesome you spend so much time down there! Cheers!
@@JamesPuente it sure is! Have a nice weekend 👍
Hey James! We are looking at doing this road in October (around the 11th). Just wondering what time in October you did this and were there many people? Also YT question, we have seen lots of info that says you can’t create videos in USAs National Parks. Would you know more info on this? Appreciate your advice
Island fox is one of my theriotypes❤❤❤
very well done, good vibes man !
Thank you! Appreciate it 🤙
Excellent video. Thanks for sharing. I’ve been to the park numerous times in the summer and this year going the first week in October, so it was great to see a video from that time of year.
Thank you! And I’ve never been in summer 😅 hope to make it back there soon!
My grandson and I just spent a couple of days up at Dinosaur. It was great!
That’s awesome y’all went, it’s beautiful out there!
Love the storytelling here. I also feel like we always skip over so much of the places we go, especially Baja!
Thanks! Baja is just so dang massive, means plenty to check out next time :)
Really looking forwards to seeing your adventures, can't wait !
Cheers, Mark. Thanks so much!
I completed this hike this year in June, not long ago. Hot day, 93 degrees, I don't recommend it. I watched your video before I did it and again, after. The second time actually brought tears to my eyes remembering how difficult it was but what a feeling of accomplishment. If I ever do it again, it will definitely be in the winter. Thank you!
The summer heat must be brutal out there! Thanks for watching! I’m glad it connected with you! Beautiful area nonetheless
Such a beautiful area! Great video!!
Thank you!
Fun fact: peak7071 in dinosaur national monument is a contender for Colorado's largest vertical wall along with the Diamond of Longs pk and painted wall of the black canyon. It has only been climbed once due to its remotness and loose nature and goes at a mid 5.10 grade.
Woah, that is a fun fact! Another reason to love Dinosaur! 🙌
Loved your filming of the nature!
Thank you Lillian!
great video.
Thanks so much!
Awesome video: great videography of nature and choice of music. Much of the Saguaro, Organ Pipe Cactus, Cholla and others can be found at Organ Pipe Cactus Monument. That's a great place as well as Puerto Penasco back in 2005. I'm very intrigued to see how you faired in that part of Mexico as I haven't heard good things since.
Thank you! Organ Pipe Cactus Monument is a place I’ll have to check out! I’m sure Baja (and Mexico in general) has changed a lot since 2005.
I miss you grand island
Glad you got to see it before Ida destroyed it and made it unaffordable for middle class people
Thanks, I’m glad I got to do this before Ida swept through. I’d be interested to go back and see how it is now
rad video
Thanks!
Great video bro!! Thanks for sharing your thoughts too. 🙏🏻
Thank you! Thanks for watching!
I love your quality!! Your super underrated ❤
Thank you so much! Thanks for watching!
Your videos are great! I really enjoy them and am impressed with your videography, editing, and onscreen persona. I watched this video and your video of Dinosaur National Monument because I live in nearby Grand Junction, Colorado. I plan to keep watching your videos and liking them.
Thank you, Jerry! I appreciate that! Colorado is a spectacular place, I can’t wait to make it back that way!
The background music to loud. Hard to hear narrator. Like show
Appreciate the feedback! Thanks! Glad you liked it!
Hi from Ireland, great video thanks, why was the Bright Angel trail closed?
Hi, thanks! Planned maintenance on the trail. Should be open by now!
James What software do you use for video and audio editing?
DaVinci Resolve for everything. It’s a powerful tool! And I source audio from an Artlist subscription
Can’t wait to hit these trails this July. Great video
Woo! Enjoy! Thanks!
Stunning video. The scenery and views are breathtaking, and your positivity, charisma and enthusiastic narration is really great too, makes it a very enjoyable and and engaging, and added a bit more connection for viewer, a fantastic watch
Thanks for your kind words! I'm glad it resonated with you! Cheers
I know this is kind of a dumb question but what kind of hiking boots do you recommend for someone with a Bigfoot like me? I have a size 13 foot and I don’t really really don’t know what brand to choose and what is best to look for when shopping for a good hiking boot.
Not a dumb question, I’d say try a few on at your nearest store offering hiking boots. I prefer a mid-height boot vs hiking shoes or larger full-height boots. Good balance between ankle support, grip on the bottom, being light enough and comfortable enough to wear for extended periods. You want them snug but comfortable. Don’t want your foot moving around too much as that’s how blisters can form. I prefer waterproof, as it’s not uncommon for me to step through ankle deep water or snow at times. Merrell is the brand I wore here, Good luck 👍
I hiked it this year. Truly a beautiful sight. I didn’t know it snowed there
Nice! Glad to show it in a rare appearance of snow!
Great work! I really enjoyed the video, and inspired to go check it out. 🙂
Woo! Thank you!
you have great videos and shots man!!!! how do u not have atleast 500k subs?! Also at 3:01, how did you get that subtle glow since the shadows are hella prominent?!
Thank you so much! I had some awesome luck with great light while I was there!
Thk you but be careful
wow very nice content
Thank you!
amazing
Thanks!
Super video ! Grettings from Czech Republic !
Thank you! Welcome! Czech Republic is a beautiful place!
What time of year did you hike this trail James? Never mind I heard you say December. I bet you added a few miles to the trip just going back and getting the camera from all the walk by shots!
Definitely adds a layer of complexity to my hikes having to backtrack for the camera 😅 fortunately, hiking in December heat wasn't a factor!
Thank you for this great video, it's helping me plan my trip. One thing - the first time I came across a mountain lion, she was in fact chillin' in a tree so looking up for them is not silly. 😄
😅 my intuition was right!? That’s wild! Thank you for checking it out! Glad it could help! Enjoy Dinosaur!
Feel the need to leave this comment. More people need to see your work - it’s incredible. Keep it up! Can’t wait to see your channel explode!
That’s an awesome compliment, thank you!! I appreciate it!
Thank you for the video! This is the best video on hiking the island. I watched it before I went to the island and did the two loops you mentioned. Had a wonderful time!
Wow, that’s awesome, thank you! Glad you got to experience it!
Crazy quality video man! Underrated place for sure but it’s better that way
Agreed! Dinosaur’s lack of fame has its pros and cons! Mostly pros!
I watched your grand canyon video and it was fantastic, this was recommended after so I checked it out and quickly decided to sub and when I went to sub I verbally exclaimed "no way" in reference to you only having 722 subs. the camera work was so amazing I truly expected you to have tens of thousands of subs. keep it up man, truly amazing work.
Wow, that’s amazing. Thank you Colton! Made me smile haha, thanks for sharing that!
How much weight did you sacrifice for camera gear and batteries? I’m usually at 5lbs for a GoPro, Dji Osomo, and an iPhone + battery bank. Nice film!!
Thanks! I’d say somewhere around 7 lbs between my Sony camera, 3 lenses, batteries, tripod. Worth it!
Ang ganda ng iyong pinapasyalan kaibigan ingat ka po
It’s beautiful, thank you! Careful as I can!
I can almost feel the fresh mountain air just by watching this. Amazing job on showcasing the beauty of nature! Grand Canyon looks epic through your lens James!
Thank you so much! 🙏 an epic place for sure!
Another spectacular adventure James, Beautifully shot
Thank you, I appreciate it!
I love your docu-style, very talented. Any plans to document a thru-hike of the AT, PCT, or CDT? Or even a full paddle trek down the Mississippi?
Thank you so much! Honestly, all 4 of those things cross my mind on occasion. We’ll see, they’re definitely a possibility!
Where is this located and how do you get to it?
If you hike a few miles up the Appalachian Trail from Fontana Dam at the southwest edge of GSMNP, you’ll find this!
Wow! Just wow!
Thank you!
You are a great film maker and editor. I have never seen anyone wear a mardi gras shirt on the trail, if I saw you I would have lost my mind. When you go back to GSMNP make the insane journey to Big Pool, its not on the map and I have yet to see anyone film in HD/4K
Thank you! Mardi Gras colors are sweet haha! Gotta rock a little slice of home! That’s good to know, I’ll look into it for next time! Cheers!
Just got back from Maggie Valley and a dozen hikes - including here. Did you look at Waterrock Knob (and the plane crash), Purchase Knob, Cataloochee, etc? We go up to the property 2-3 times a year and these views never get old! And we have never seen the stars like you did, and our property is mountain top, literally above the clouds. 😮
That’s awesome, I did make it out to Cataloochee, beautiful out there. Your property sounds amazing!
@JamesPuente after reading my comment about the property, it came across as boastful, not what I intended. Just meant to say, that even being that high, we never get your amazing Milky Way view. It was gorgeous! And we highly recommend the Waterrock Knob hike-it's a challenging one!
No worries, that Milky Way view is definitely helped by long exposure on the camera! Waterrock Knob, added to my list for next time!! Thanks!!
Harika video 🎁
